Kalaimaamani Dr. Maanick Jayakumar is a well known Saxophone artist from Thiruchengode, Namakal district. He was awarded with a title "Kalaimamani" by Government of Tamil Nadu in 2006.

Early Life[edit]

Jayakumar was born in a musical family on 31st July 1977 .He was a son of Kalaimudhumani Sri S.M. Manickam and Srimathi Saraswathi. His father was a well known clarinet artist and his Grandfather Sri Muthusamy was a well know Nadhaswaram artist. He has started his training from Kalamudhumani Namkal Sri S.Sundharam and later from Nadhakalarathna Puttur Dr. P.K.Ganesh

He was completed his higher grade in music, conducted by Tamil Nadu Govt in 2004. After that in 2008, he completed D.Music from Thanjavur Tamil university. Later he complete M.A music from University of Madras. He also done M.A in Tamil and History from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Annamalai University. He was played around 3000 plus concerts in various places.

Since 1998, he was successfully running "JK Kalaimandram" in Thiruchengode. From his mandram many students are well trained in various fine arts like Vocal, Veena, keyboard, drums. Every year, Margazhi Season concerts was conducted by JK mandram along with several good heart people in Thiruchencode for past 30 years.

Awards[edit]

He was selected as a "B-High" artist by All India radio, Coimbatore in 2001.

Also in the same year he got an award "Saxophone Samrat" by Sri la Sri Gurumaha sanidhanam, Madurai.

He got a Honorable Tamil Nadu state award "Kalaimaamani" from Tamil Nadu Government in 2006.

International Tamil University, USA was given "Honorary Doctorate" in 2016.

In 2022, he got an "Acharyaa Rathna" award from the hands of Padma Bhushan T.V. Gopala Krishnan (AIMA), and he got an title "Isai Thilagam" from the hands of  Padma Sri A.K.C. Natarajan (Arangam Chamber of Music, Trichy).

In the same year Seerai Tamil Isai Sangam was given a title "Saxophone Chakravarthi".
