Management Committee of Khalsa College Amritsar created Sikh History Research Centre in 1930 to write and publish Sikh history from modern historical perspective[1].Karam Singh Historian was to be given lead role to create this centre by committee .Owing to his sudden demise Centre was started as Sikh History Department under Khalsa College by S. Jagat Singh and subsequently taken over by Dr. Ganda Singh on 20 October 1931 under his stewardship.[2][3]

In this centre historic resources of Sikh history beginning with Guru Nanak upto present times are available.These are in various languages including Persian , Punjabi and English.Various heads have collected these by obtaining copies from Khudabakksh library Patna, Rampur Raja library Rampur (U.P.), Salarjung Museum Hyderabad, Sindhis office Puna, Jaipur State Arcives department; besides India Office Library London from abroad.[3]



In its Library there are approx.7000 rare books[4]. Apart from these ,there are 601 manuscripts including 207 in punjabi, 219 in Persian, 123 in English, 41 in Urdu and 11 in Sanskrit and Hindi.[5][1]There are volumes of Punjabi magazines like Phulwari, Gurmat Parkash; English magazine Sikh Review,Link starting from 1904 to 1988 & 35 bound volumes of proceedings of Sikh History conference .Starting with1904 there are 380 files of English , Punjabi ,Urdu and Hindi important newspapers[6] of Punjab .90 files of selected newspaper cuttings are also available here.Besides, 35 bindings of in-house magazine of Khalsa college activities is preserved here.[7]

For the facilitation of Research Scholars, for conserving rare documents 3250000 pages have already been digitised here.
