From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The purpose of this page is to give as much background information about me as possible. I recognize wiki is not a place to make one's own web page, and I do have my own, but I believe that if what I say is to be trusted, my previous experiences should be taken into consideration. It is no good reading a book by an author without any background on the person because then you do not know what qualifications and credentials the author has. This is my personal stance, if there is anything that violates the user agreement I have with Wikipedia, please inform me on my talk page or just leave a message if you like something I have done or a request of a German article that does not exist yet in English. Thank you.

This is my third major revision of my user page. Added list of sub-pages under table of contents though that was the big update: sub-pages. Most are Wikipedia centered - though not the About Me, but I justify that.

About Me

[edit]

I have moved this and other sections from this page to an auxiliary page, About Me. I realize this page has nothing to do with Wikipedia in the strictest sense, but I feel if someone is to trust what I say when I get around to expanding my translated articles or work on a project that is not translating, there should be some way to look at my background, even if it is not reference-able.

In short, a college student with some time off - not that I wanted that but I had no choice - and some knowledge of German trying to help out those people who wander across an odd German topic and would like to find it here.

Why I am here

[edit]

Not that this section is really necessary, I think it would be a nice way to say why I am working to improve Wikipedia. For a long time I would come here and read what others had written and use it as I would any other encyclopedia, as a source of knowledge from which to learn. During high school I only heard about Wiki every now and again and the site I used had Wiki built into it, along with a dictionary, thesaurus, medical encyclopedia and 2 pay to use encyclopedias - with all this I never thought to use Wiki but I slowly began using it more and more once I entered college. Early off I tried to register my usual name and found that taken so I took my alternative name before anyone else did, not that I have any worries, but just to be safe. Since then I have been on Wiki every now and again but with more and more frequency as the time went on, though long enough to forget I had an account. So I rescued my old account - not many would have this name so when it was taken I tried my normal password and it worked - and decided that I had piggy backed on the great work which has been done on Wikipedia long enough, but did not know where to start. So I was tempted to join every group on Wikipedia, but really thought about it and decided it was best to only join one group and make an impact, then move onto another group once one seemed to have me exhausted and that is exactly what I am doing.

Just a note, I never quote directly from any Wikipedia article - many articles are not deemed valid enough to use in serious writing and may not count as a source in upper level writing. With that said, there is nothing that says the references used by Wikipedia may not be quoted and used in writing, so keep referencing everything!

WikiProjects

[edit]

Current Groups

[edit]

So far I have only joined a single group, WikiProject Germany and have been doing some freelance translating to hone my use of German.

I am also working as a German Translator on the Wikipedia German Translation Page.

Listed in

[edit]

I have had articles on the news pages of the following WikiProjects: WP Australia, WP Books, WP Czech Rep, WP Military History, WP Netherlands, WP Hungary, WP Films and WP Logic.

Future Projects

[edit]

I would like to stay until I have been recognized at least once - preferably more - for my contributions to a project before I move onto a new project. This means it may be a while before I add more projects to my current group listing. To keep track on projects which interest me I will list them here - in no particular order.

People WP BioWP PeeragesWP CitiesWP CeltsWP RoyaltyWP GenealogyWP Mythology
History WP Former CountriesWP Military HistoryWP Middle AgesWP Yearly LeadersWP Cold WarWP US HistoryWP Timeline Tracer
Euro WP EUWP Euro historyWP Europe
Countries WP EnglandWP UKWP JapanWP IrelandWP NJWP ScotlandWP UK Geography
Entertainment WP Alternative MusicWP PSWP Video GamesWP SquareEnixWP Final FantasyWP AnimeWP King ArthurWP SherlockWP NFLWP Baseball

I already make contributions to WikiProject Biography and may join in the near future but their guild lines for article creation does not cover translations well, so I am holding off on joining for now.

Pages I have contributed to

[edit]

See Also: Previous Contributions and Sandbox page

New pages are being incubated on my new Sandbox page, these articles are being kept to give me time to look them over since I see different errors at different times

Listed chronologically, my contributions so far include:

Older articles available to be viewed at Previous Contributions, Stats and other Wikis (Last updated for early August)

Awards

[edit]

None yet, though I may get one eventually. My first one will probably be the one I can give myself since my articles are fairly well hidden, though I will eventually work on that.

Personal Tasks/To Do List

[edit]

Everyone else has one, why not me? A more extensive list is located at To-Do including the large number of red links which I want to translate.

  • Translate all German articles linked in Heinrich Mann Prize
    • (Incomplete)
  • Expand National Prize of East Germany to include more information and more entrees from German article
    • (Not started)
  • Expand Hans-Georg Gadamer to include a section on his prize and recipients
    • (Not started)
  • None of my articles will have stubs attached or red links, though this may take some time!
