Hamid Marwat – National Programme Coordinator, Sustainable Land Management Programme (SLMP), a joint programme of UNDP & MoCC. He also worked as Chief, Environment Section in the Planning Commission of Pakistan- His responsibilities included environmental integration into development planning, climate change issues, natural resource management and capacity building as Chief Environment Section of Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan at Islamabad. Mr Marwat’s educational background is in forestry & biodiversity conservation, NRM, Remote Sensing & GIS. Additionally, he has taken numerous training courses abroad in community development, biodiversity, protected areas and forest inventory/assessment, environmental impact assessment, and organizational management. He specializes in NRM and biodiversity conservation and has expertise in the planning and management of different types of natural resources in varied ecologies. He is also skilled in strategic planning for natural resource management, development planning, monitoring and evaluation, donor relation and human resources management. Mr. Marwat started his career in 1988 as a professional Forest Officer with the Forest Department of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. In his thirty years of professional work, he worked on different assignments including interalia, forest protection/conservation and management, forest resource inventory implying remote sensing & GIS, his dedicated work on brown bear in Deosai National Park with rural communities, expert NRM/Environment with IUCN Pakistan and more varied work on entire range of environmental issues and management as Chief Environment & climate Change, etc. Marwat was the pioneer in working and introducing modern techniques like GIS & RS in forest management and planning. His work has laid the foundation for permanent GIS Lab at Forest Management Centre (FMC) that followed in Pakistan. In recognition of his pioneering on GIS, the GTZ, Germany granted him a special award for pursuing his M.Sc in NRM with specialization in GIS and remote sensing at ITC the Netherlands. Over the years, he has authored several papers and publications on the issues of biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, environment, etc. Currently Marwat is an active member of several international and national conservation’s committees and fora. A comparison between optical and Radar satellite images for maping tropical rain forests cover types. 7. Land Use planning and Zoining for NWFP Pakistan: A Project Proposal. 8. Management of Deosai National Park Northern Areas Pakistan: A Project Proposal. 9. Co-author and Editor for Case Studies at NRCP Galiat, Abbottabad. 10. Author of more than 16 Village Development Plans( Community based NRM).
