Late Stage Carlyism (LSC) is a life-long pathological disorder characterized by confusion regarding bananas and continuous typos. Although untreatable, some professionals suggest quarantining the infected to limit public exposure. While no deaths are recorded from Carlyism, doctors have made no progress on a cure.

Stages and Progression[edit]

While all Carlyism is termed "Late Stage," patients often progress through a number of stages. Victims do not necessarily begin at stage one or progress to stage five, but many patients fall down the staircase of stages. Stage one Carlyism is characterized by only one of the following symptoms: moodiness, moderate typos, or excessive laughter. In stage two, the patients progress into more visible symptoms like typoism. While some experience banana misidentification syndrome in stage two, it often remains hidden. Doctors believe early diagnoses in stage two could lead to increased recovery options. However, auto correct is often reviled for covering up early typoism. In stage three, Carlyism becomes much more severe. All subjects routinely fail to misidentify objects as bananas. Typoism also progresses significantly, often to a rate of four mistyped letters for every ten total. Lastly, stage four evidences rampant banana misidentification. Subjects reportedly believe soup to contain bananas, which still confuses doctors. By this point typoism is rampant and words are generally not understandable.

Banana Dichotomy Treatment[edit]

The only treatment for LSC is the Banana Dichotomy Treatment, where infected alternate between normal and all banana diets. Every other day, patients undergoing this therapy are required to consume only banana products. However, they are free to regulate their own diet other days. Proponents such as John Smith in his fundamental work [User:Handofthrawn1217/sandbox/The Carly Epidemic|The Carly Epidemic] suggest this treatment can shock the brain into correctly identifying bananas. Unfortunately, curing [User:Handofthrawn1217/sandbox/Banana Misidentification Syndrome|Banana Misidentification Syndrome] does not always resolve the underlying LSC, especially in more severe cases.

Outbreaks[edit]

The first global outbreak of LSC started in early December of 2018. While infections so far are low, Carlyism has taken a heavy toll on all infected. Unlike most pandemics, medical professionals have been able to positively identify the undisputable patient zero, a Carly Wilt. Much current research is directed towards this [index case]] as a template for research.
