WirrWahr is a medieval style band from Mönchengladbach. It was founded in 2005 and has since then released two albums, "Pest-of" and "Ante Portas". Their repertoire reaches from traditional, medieval songs like Douce Dame Jolie or Totentanz (Danse Macabre) to self-written songs. While many songs are in German, some are in Norsk or Occitan language.

Band history

[edit]

The band was founded in 2005 by Baccata der Taktlose, Eigil der Verwirrte, Prillan das Verdrehte and Das Namenlose Grauen. In september 2005 Das Namenlose Grauen left the band and was replaced by Filzmaul, who not only played bagpipe, but schalm and guitar. Shortly after Prillan das Verdrehte retreated from spotlight. Klopfer joined the band as drummer. At the same time Rhabia joined the band as guest musician supplying lute and singing but left again in 2006. The band now consisted of Baccata der Taktlose, Eigil der Verwirrte, Filzmaul and Klopfer. It was in this cast that their debut album "Pest of" was created and published in 2007. In Juli 2007 Harpfari joined the band supplying another bagpipe and shalms. Filzmaul left WirrWahr on the 1st of januar 2008. For him Silentio der Lautstarke joined the band, replacing Filzmaul on the guitar. In this cast the second album "Ante Portas" was produced and published in 2009. The band plays medieval music, or music inspired by medieval melodies and instruments. Their songs are often inspired by ancient melodies and songbooks, like Cantigas de Santa Maria or Carmina Burana, but they also have a great amount of self-written songs. The first album "WirrWahr - Pest of" was published on the 22th of march by the label "Soul Food". In may 2007 WirrWahr played at the historical festival in Jülich and in june 2007 at the medieval festival on Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. On the 3rd of april 2009 their second album "Ante Portas" was published again by the label "Soul Food".
