Optiv Security is a privately owned cyber security company based out of Denver, Colorado, United States. Optiv is a pure-play cyber security company. This means Optiv helps businesses, governments and educational institutions plan, build and run successful security programs through the right combination of products, services and solutions related to security program strategy, enterprise risk and consulting, threat and vulnerability management, enterprise incident management, security architecture and implementation, training, identity and access management and managed security.[1] A Blackstone (NYSE: BX) portfolio company[2], Optiv has served more than 7,500 clients in more than 70 countries over the past three years. These clients are various sizes across multiple industries, including Fortune 500 companies. Optiv maintains partnerships with more than 350 of the leading security product manufacturers[3].


History

On November 5, 2014, FishNet Security announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to join forces with Accuvant (its top competitor) to create a new, combined company. The move brought together the complementary strengths of the two organizations, creating a new provider with a broader suite of services, smarter solutions, more expertise and expanded reach to innovate and meet customers’ complex and rapidly expanding global information security needs. On February 2, 2015, the merger was completed and the transaction closed[4]. On April 21, 2015, Accuvant and FishNet Security announced plans to launch their new, combined corporate name and brand, and to begin conducting business as Optiv Security in summer 2015. Accuvant and FishNet Security completed its transformational merger and began conducting business as Optiv Security on August 5, 2015 [5].

Acquisitions

  • Adaptive Communications: In June 2016, Optiv strengthened its precense in New England with the acquisition of Adaptive Communications.[6]
  • Evantix: In May 2016, Optiv completed its second acquisition in less than a month, acquiring the assets of California-based Evantix GRC, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that helps enterprises with regulatory compliance and assessing risk with third-party vendors and service providers. This acquisition allowed Optiv to improve its practice around third-party security risk.
  • Advancive: In April 2016, Optiv completed its first acquisition, Advancive Technology Solutions, a Pasadena, California-based identity and access management (IAM) vendor. Prior to the deal, Optiv had fifty employees working on IAM services. With this acquisiton, Optiv added thirty-five more employees, the ability to get deeper into identity management technologies and give Optiv a presence in India.[7]
