From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ARM9 is a family of microprocessors based on the AMR9TDMI processor core. This family of microprocessors uses a Harvard architecture RISC core. It supports both the 32-bit ARM instruction set and the 16-bit Thumb instruction set.

Instruction set architecture

[edit]

The ARM architecture is designed as a Reduced instruction set computer. A instruction set architecture (ISA) is the interface between the computer program and the CPU. It defines the set of instructions, memory addressing modes, processor registers, and address and data formats, that are implemented in the CPU, therefore, available to the programmer.

The processors in the ARM9 family have slightly different ISAs.

Naming

[edit]

Each processor in the ARM9 family has a instruction set architecture that is identified by a well formed name.
