Saraswati International School

[edit]

Hi,

I've uploaded a file named Statue of Saraswati Goddess , now I want to add this file into the article Saraswati International School because the image in that file is captured from this school. So can you tell me the steps of adding a file/image which is already uploaded on Wikipedia to be added to an article.

Thank You,Sukhoi30mki (talk) 08:33, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

The process of adding images to articles is detailed here. Regards. Hitro talk 08:59, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

The significance of Inclusion of the Cambridge Analog Technologies page

[edit]

Dear Hitro,

Cambridge Analog Technologies is primarily significant because of its contributions to field of semiconductors in general and circuit design in particular. This company has invented a (proven) revolutionary new method of designing analog circuits that are 10x lower than what is traditional. It has 30 patents worldwide, this company also received a NSF award for this work, the paper on this technology has also recd numerous other awards incld the best paper award @ ISSCC.

Sometimes certain organizations get intertwined with certain innovations that are so fundamentally disruptive that it becomes generally relevant for average folks but certainly those in the field.

These innovations will be detailed with this company with citations etc.

You do have other companies such as TSMC, ARM, Chipidea, MIPs. The last three companies are in the business of semiconductor Semiconductor IP business as well.

Wikipedia is an excellent source of relevant past and contemporary information; this page certainly is an excellent candidate for inclusion precisely because of its scientific contributions. While I may be seen as someone who has reason to be biased, I would not be providing this information did I feel this was not the case.

I hope this explains why we deemed it fit for inclusion in wikipedia. If you would like verification of its contributions, I would be happy to provide those to you.

I would ask that this page not be deleted; if it needs editing with further information, I would be happy to do so as appropriate.

Thanks and Best Regards, Kush Gulati Catwikionline (talk) 04:29, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello Kush!!
A company, corporation or organization is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject. The depth of coverage of the subject by the source must be considered. If the depth of coverage is not substantial, then multiple independent sources should be cited to establish notability. Trivial or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability. The source's audience must also be considered. Evidence of attention by international or national, or at least regional, media is a strong indication of notability. On the other hand, attention solely from local media, or media of limited interest and circulation, is not an indication of notability.
If you think Cambridge Analog Technologies fulfills the general notability guideline I mentioned above then you may recreate the article, Make Sure to verify the claims made within the articles with reliable sources. I hope this will be helpful, Regards. Hitro talk 11:04, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

How could you possibly deny the notability of D millz? "He has rocked syphers all over tha island from back yard barbaques to house party rap battles". Just kidding of course, you tagged it as CDS A7 about 1.2 seconds before my finger hit the save button to do the same. Cheers, ponyo (talk) 20:48, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I tagged it A2, because I couldn't find any other "foreign language" CSD on TWINKLE. It got deleted, which is what I wanted, so it all worked out in the end. Deletion Inquiry

[edit]

Hello, I would like to know why my article on trombonist Elliot Mason is about to be deleted. The reason given (that the article is not significant) is arguable, to say the least. Abromwell (talk) 19:26, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello!!!!! The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability; it is not enough to simply assert that a topic is notable without substantiating that claim. Please verify the notability of the subject through reliable third party source. You may want to read WP:MUSIC, it provides a guideline of how the concept of notability applies to topics related to music, including artists and bands, albums, and songs. Regards Hitro talk 19:33, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
The page to which I have been directed states that "A mere claim of significance, even if contested, may avoid speedy deletion under A7, requiring a full proposed deletion or Article for Deletion process to determine if the article should be included in Wikipedia". I have claimed that Elliot Mason is significant. Furthermore, I have identified an independent source (the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra page) that attests to Mason's notability. He took a solo on national TV, for goodness' sake. I am currently searching for additional resources, but I know that the Northwestern University website contains a similar bio for Elliot, and should qualify as an independent source. Abromwell (talk) 19:39, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I would also like to point out that I have read the Wikipedia pages for a great number of trombonists and many of them lack adequate citation. For example, the page on Joseph Alessi, perhaps the most well known American trombonist, makes very subjective claims (i.e. Alessi is widely regarded to be the finest player of the instrument today) and offers no references or bibliography. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abromwell (talkcontribs) 20:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for late response, I was away from desk. There isn't any claim of significance within article. A skilled performer or He has been praised are not a claim strong enough for encyclopedic article, in fact these are not claims but a point of view. However, I am taking it to AfD for better consensus, you are welcome to place your view there. Hitro talk 21:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
If Elliot Mason has been subject of nationall broadcast then please include it into the article and verify that. That will satisfy notability criteria. Hitro talk 21:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Maybe give her a little more than 2 minutes to fix it before tagging it? I know from personal experience how annoying that can be. - Denimadept (talk) 22:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Removal of PROD from Gauri Malla

[edit]

Hello HitroMilanese, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Gauri Malla has been removed. It was removed by ThaddeusB with the following edit summary '(contest prod - subject has won best actress awards from her country's film industry & thus is notable - add references to support award wins; fix movie links)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with ThaddeusB before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Thank you, SDPatrolBot (talk) 16:53, 22 July 2009 (UTC) (Learn how to opt out of these messages)

Hey Hitro, I saw your comment on the talkpage for that article--well said. Listen, that editing dispute is probably not going away anytime soon. In the meantime, we need to find an expert (pref. one who knows English better than some of the contributors to the article) who can figure out what's what. Do you have any ideas? Do you know any experts in this area? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 13:04, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello!!! I do not have no idea about this subject. However, I have raised this issue at Wikiproject India. Hope we may find some expert there. Regards Hitro talk 18:35, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks--I appreciate it. I don't know much about the topic either; what I do know is that some people get really upset over those matters--and often do so in poor English with no references. Thanks again, Drmies (talk) 19:46, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

I completely understand why you added the speedy deletion tag to this article; I was sufficiently familiar with her name that I found a reference that demonstrates notability, and therefore removed the speedy tag, but I wanted you to know that the article I saw didn't have anything to demonstrate notability and you were perfectly correct. dear hitro, Ok i understand, then you could have deleted the contacts and i also read in the history about infrastructure being promotional fine is ok if you delete that too then why did you delete the entire page? that included alumni, activities and academy? it had nothing promotional at all. in alumni i gave a link to the official site when the list was there. and in activities i described the functions happening in the school and in academics i wrote about the exams and subjects. what was promotional about that? Do you know, i literally cried when i found out my work was completely deleted. after putting my baby to sleep i sat till 4 in the morning to write all that. now when i tried to undo it. and delete the infra and contact keeping the rest. it seems it has to be manually done. Also i looked into many other school entries and wrote it. if mine has to be deleted then i suppose there are many entries doing so.... if there is anything you can do to just undo the activities, alumni and academy, please do. i don't know when will i be able to find time to write all that again. please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinkpearl 285 (talkcontribs) 04:57, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello PinkPearl!!!! I couldn't do anything because I have not removed those entries. Please see the history of the page. Just for Your Information, Plenty of articles exist that probably should not. Equally, because articles must wait for someone who is interested in the subject to notice they are missing before they are created, a lot of articles do not exist that probably should. So just pointing out that an article on a similar subject exists does not prove that the article in question should also exist; it is quite possible that the other article should also be deleted but nobody has noticed it and put it forward. So if mine has to be deleted then i suppose there are many entries doing so is not a valid argument. Regards Hitro talk 07:49, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

dear hitro, 1st of all i didn't mean to say others had to be deleted, i thought every entry existing in here was verified so when i saw other such entries i felt confused and now i do know why it was deleted. they said i had a promotional language.so i'll be rewriting it... sorry for any inconvenience caused —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.192.44 (talk) 09:17, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Bal537's Edits

Dear Admin,

User Bal537 has been indulging in Vandalism on Ramdasia section of Wikipedia.

Ramdasia [Weavers,Julahas] have nothing to do with Ravidasia[Cobblers,Chamars]. This user is trying to project other communities including Jats, Khatri, Brahmin as descendant of Chamar community which is highly objectionable.

I would therefore request you to permanently block user Bal537 from making any malicious edits on any section of Wikipedia.

It's still Khukhrain

[edit]

Dear Hitro

Thanks for the kind consideration and efforts to locate the right spellings. The site that you have reffered http://www.khukhran.com[1] states as follows.... We believe Khukhran's don't represent a caste and don't have any relation to a particular religion. They represent a "genealogy" of people that inhabited the same region in India. This area was primarily "Bhera, Punjab (Pakistan)-BHERA, a town of British-India".

Khukhran.com / KhukhranBiradari.com is a Canadian non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to

So Hitro, they don't even consider Khukhrain as any cast from any where in the world....and just imagine a Canadian organisation commenting/publishing such statements about a sub-caste of Indian origin.

On the contrary, why not reffer to the actual official website that is http://www.khukhrain.tk[2]. I am sure this would help you change your views towards it's right diction/spellings.(Anoop Kohli 06:34, 29 July 2009 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anoopkohli (talkcontribs)

indian school salalah

[edit]

hi hitro we shud talk !

U had put up a no citations sign on the ISS webpage , I spared a few valuable hours making references for each statement put up there. I also deleted statements I felt were self praising & difficult to substatiate. A visitor to this page cud be interested in knowing what are the languages taught there as it is different in each school - u deleted that section claiming it to be junk. An encyclopedia is also used as a reference for dates -- u deleted the section that mentioned the date when the school started. A school entry is expected to have details about its curriculum --- the most important section -- u deleted that claiming it as junk !

I have seen wiki pages for a sister concern of this school Iindian school dubai -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Indian_High_School,_Dubai

Plz see the info mentioned there -- the editor has added even the subjects being taught in each section!! This is an info that is similiar to all CBSE schools , therefore this can be termed junk.He has mentioned names of dignitaries that visited the school , is this relevant info?!!

Any article that gives a brief summary of the syllabus followed, is an essential part of a school info page. But here , u have deemed it to be junk.

Now either u havent noticed wiki's editing policy in similiar pages [ this amounts to non-uniform editing] or wiki has started a new policy of clearing up junk from all pages, the ISS page just happens to be first in the crossfire. IF the second option is the case , then I recommend Wiki put up a ideal school page as a sample for first time users so that we wont waste hours uploading info that wud later be termed unessential , we cud save a lot of workhours & this can also set a standard for present & future school pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slldiary (talkcontribs) 04:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello Slldiary, how are you doing?
First of all, this is not ISS webpage but an article at Wikipedia. A school article should focus specifically on aspects of the curriculum which are unique to the school. If the curriculum is unique then it can be relocated. Since, uniqueness was not pointed, I removed it. Date of Establishment is already included in infobox, a separate history section is not needed just to repeat date of establishment. An history section should describe the history of the school, including noteworthy milestones in its development. Curriculum and Syllabus are most important section in School Website but to be the part of encyclopedia it should worth notability.
About Indian School Dubai- This is not a valid argument. Plenty of articles exist that probably should not. Equally, because articles must wait for someone who is interested in the subject to notice they are missing before they are created, a lot of articles do not exist that probably should. So just pointing out that an article on a similar subject exists does not prove that the article in question should also exist; it is quite possible that the other article should also be deleted but nobody has noticed it and put it forward or cared to worked over it.
Now either u havent noticed wiki's editing policy....-Neither I have ignored any editing policy nor Wiki has generated new policy. You may want to read Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools and guidelines included within. Though its not a policy but it may be followed as standard parameter. Plano Senior High School and Stuyvesant High School are featured articles, you may take them as ideal school article. There are few more good articles Amador Valley High School, Gordon Parks High School, North Community High School, Port Charlotte High School and there are many more articles which can be taken as sample. WP:Your First Article also gives substantial idea to new contributor about what is accepted at wikipedia and what is not.
Regards!!!! Hitro talk 07:17, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

U do have a point there

[edit]

Hi there Hitro

Yes, U do have a point there about the establishment date in the infobox, I missed that repetition. & yes , it is an article in an encyclopedia , not a webpage, so it shud contain only relevant info. I will try to upload more unique info next time. The ideal pages u mentioned, eg. plano school has 1 big advantage -- the school itself is ideal in many respects.

Thanks for pointing out the wiki project on schools , that was a big help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slldiary (talkcontribs) 13:21, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Ktunaxa re-direct

[edit]

I am the Communications Manager for the Ktunaxa Nation (responsible for www.ktunaxa.org), and I find it very frustrating to navigate through this issue. The Ktunaxa is the name that the Ktunaxa people call themselves.... Kootenai is the "white person" name that was given to them. The least that could happen is that the re-direct go in reverse..... so that Kootenai re-directs to Ktunaxa. I am sure that Wikipedia doesn't have a page called "Indians", but instead has the correct term "First Nations"..... in this case, Wikipedia is out of step with being politically correct.

There is a Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, but is just one of the member communities that make up the Ktunaxa Nation.

--KtunaxaNation (talk) 20:25, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

I have proposed the page move here. It will be reviewed and changes may be reflected within few hours.
Wikipedia has global audiences therefore some terms may look politically incorrect to a group or to a particular nation. Generally globalized terms are used at Wikipedia. Hitro talk 20:50, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

I am writing to address the warnings on the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative page, that I think you may have created. While I agree that the language used on the page was not neutral and written in an advertisement-like manner, the page has since been updated and now uses neutral language and is not different from the pages of similar organizations. To have those warnings remain on the page is not only unfair to the organization, but is misleading to potential readers looking for information on DNDi. Would it be possible to review the page and remove them?
