Stokeley Clevon Goulbourne (born April 18, 1996), better known by his stage name Ski Mask the Slump God (or simply Ski Mask, formerly stylized as $ki Mask the Slump God),[2] is an American rapper from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[3] He is best known for his songs "Catch Me Outside" and "BabyWipe".

Early life

[edit]

Growing up, Goulbourne moved around frequently, living in Brooklyn, Atlanta and New Jersey.[2] In 2014, Goulbourne was sent to a juvenile detention center for possession of marijuana.[4] During his time in the juvenile detention center, he met American rapper XXXTentacion and the two eventually became close friends and frequent collaborators.

Career

[edit]

Following Goulbourne's release, he formed the rap group "Very Rare" and released his first song on the streaming service SoundCloud. Goulbourne eventually joined XXXTentacion's collective Members Only[5][6] after the release of Members Only Vol. 1, a collaboration mixtape with XXXTentacion in 2015. This mixtape would eventually be followed up with Members Only, Vol 2 and then Members Only, Vol 3 on June 26, 2017.[7][8]

In May 2016, Goulbourne released his first mixtape Drown-In-Designer which generated popular songs such as "Take a Step Back" featuring XXXTentacion [9][10] and "Where's the Blow!" featuring Miami rapper Lil Pump. Between the release of his two mixtapes, Goulbourne released two EPs; Very Rare Lost Files and Slaps for My Drop-top Mini-van, the former including the single "Life is Short".[11] Goulbourne currently gets an average of one million plays a week.[4]

On June 30, 2017, Goulbourne released his debut commercial project YouWillRegret under Republic Records.[12][13]

Controversies

[edit]

During a concert at The Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, Goulbourne was pushed off stage and then assaulted by a supposed-associate of rapper Rob Stone.[14][15][16] The attack was said to be instigated by an ongoing feud between the two rappers, starting when Goulbourne refused to leave the stage during Stone's opening act for rapper Desiigner.[17]

[edit]

In 2014, Goulbourne was sent to a juvenile detention center for possession of marijuana.[4]

Goulbourne was arrested for driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, and robbery in August 2016.[18][19] He was later released on bail.
