Hokitika Taipos Rugby League Club was formed after the prior Hokitika Pioneers League Club was closed due to no affiliation and constitution with New Zealand Rugby League and West Coast.

A Men’s Premier team was formed by new management led by Graeme Jackson a former Halswell Premier player and West Coast Representative Coach.

The new Branding was created after a competition to find a new club name/title and after a few nominations and results there needed to be a result with an original name.

After some discussion Graeme Jackson, had found a suitable and original and unique one in the “Taipos”,a title of a native insect the Weta, which has a  devilish appearance and appeal as a Club identity moving forward to establish a club characteristic.

After a Successful start with the Men’s Premier League team it was decided that to have a club it needed a strong committee and thus it required junior grades, and with junior teams it has parents who then evolved into the new framework for the club’s future.

New Coaches and President Robert Singer and Club stalwarts Jenny and Pete Green continued the strong development of teams in ALL grades with success, then after their children had finished playing the new club made more success with the Wilson family headed by the Late Barry Wilson (A former WCRL Board member) and Kirsty and Gene Wilson.

The club continues to thrive and has had success since the early inception
