Small Cajal body specific RNA 9 (also known as SCARNA9 or mgU2-19/30) is a small nucleolar RNA found in Cajal bodies which is composed of two C/D box domains with predicted targets in the U2 spliceosomal RNA (nucleotides G19 and A30) [1].

The two box C/D domains are separated by a G/U-rich linker. The full-length molecule appears to localize to the Cajal body. The two component snoRNAs, designated mgU2-19 and mgU2-30, exist as separate entitites localized to the nucleolus [1]. A mouse homolog of mgU2-30 has been reported as Z32 snoRNA in GenBank entry AJ242789[2]. The sequence of SCARNA9 is quite well conserved and can be found in all vertebrates. In tetrapods and some teleosts it is associated with KIAA1731, a conserved protein of unknown function. In zebrafish, GBAS serves as host gene for the SCARNA9 homolog. In M. lucifugus and E. europaeus SCARNA9 is associated with the proteins PLRG1 and SETD1B, respectively.
