Mokare Park is a park located on Mount Melville in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
The park was named after a Noongar man, Mokare,[1] who was a well-known an effective mediator and peacemaker between the Indigenous population and European settlers in the region.[2]
The area is predominantly composed of natural bushland that is of significance to the local Minang peoples. The area was traditionally used as a meeting place for rituals, trading and marriage arrangements.[2]
The park was first gazetted in 1946 in recognition of Mokare's contribution to the exploration of the Great Southern and South West regions of Western Australia.[3]
