Advantages to deleting these lists:
- Lists of bands largely duplicate what categories are already doing.
- Inclusion criteria for categories are the same as article criteria
- Auto-linking - add the category to the band's page, it automatically adds the band to the category
- Some of the general advantages of lists (ability to annotate, different ways of sorting entries, linking to sections within articles, including alternative names of same subject) aren't of any real use when you're just listing bands.
- MUCH less maintenance effort needed to keep it looking good.
- Eliminates faulty links. For example, one list included Catharsis when it should've included Catharsis (band). It's next to impossible to make this mistake with categorization.
Advantages to keeping these lists:
- Red-linked or otherwise un-wikied musicians aren't listed in categories
- Historical membership is impossible to track from the category page
