Valued Contributor Award
You have been identified as a valued contributor and your efforts are appreciated. We are honored to present you with the Valued Contributor Award and we thank you for donating your time, expertise and effort to Wikipedia. Keep up the good work. Thanks. (more details)

The Valued Contributor Award Project is a way to let other Wikipedian's know that their contributions are appreciated. Every Wikipedian is encouraged to hand these out as freely as possible in order to spread good cheer to the greater Wikipedian community.

Overview[edit]

This project is similar to Today's Wikipedian and Happy {{{1}}}'s Day! more commonly known as the Awesome Wikipedian award. The main difference is that everybody is encouraged to participate in handing out these awards in order to spread good cheer and happiness to everybody.

Usage[edit]

Place the following code on the talk page of the user you wish to thank.

{{subst:User:Hydroxonium/ValuedContributorAward}} ~~~~

Please note that the signature (~~~~) is placed at the end, outside of the template. This is because some user's signatures will break this template. You may add an explanation for why you are presenting this award, but it is not necessary. The code above will produce the award shown at the top of this page.

Userbox[edit]

This user has received {{{1}}} Valued Contributor Awards for their contributions to Wikipedia.

Users that receive this award may wish to place the userbox (shown above) on their userpage. To display this userbox, add the following code to your userpage.

{{User:Hydroxonium/ValuedContributorBox|N}}
(where N = number of awards)

Rationale[edit]

I am continually seeing other Wikipedian's doing good deeds. For example:

  • An experienced user helping a newbie
  • An Admin reforming a vandal
  • A Wikipedian overhauling an article
  • A person teaching somebody about Wikipedia's inner workings

I see these things all the time and it makes me feel grateful that those people are around helping make Wikipedia a better place. I often want to say "Thank You", but I don't want to butt in to their discussions, or I don't have time to give a detailed explanation of what I am thankful for. So I decided to start this project in order to express my gratituded to other Wikipedians for everything they do.

Another aspect to this project is that people like to feel appreciated. I've come across Wikipedians that have worked for many months having little or no feedback from others. These users especially appreciate feedback and a pat on the back. New users are also thankful for awards and this encourages them to learn more about Wikipedia's ways of doing things and how they can contribute in other areas, not just article editing.

Thanks[edit]

Thanks to everybody for participating in this project and helping to make Wikipedia a more friendly place. - Hydroxonium (H3O+)
