I am pleased to join in the WikipediA experience. Needless to say, I am surprised that my user name had not already been claimed. I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. I serve as a lecturer on the adjunct faculty at a Bay Area university.

I have been on WikipediA now for some months, perusing the culture. Having no inspiration to contribute meaningfully as of yet, I spend my time navigating the awkward interface of the encyclopedia and getting caught up in contemporaneous scandals. What I've found is a culture enamored with rules and process, but only as they apply to other editors. I have become interested in this culture of bureaucracy and started to research it. From my limited interaction, I can see that there is something fundamentally wrong with WikipediA. Process has usurped substance for many of the long time editors. New editors are bullied by experienced editors. The admin/sysop system is problematic. There is almost no practical mechanisms to hold admins/sysops accountable. I am considering doing research into the systems that create this culture of bureaucracy, and analyzing the types of people that thrive in it.
