User:Iadmc/(factsheet) Murder of Denise Amber Lee/The aftermath

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Foundation

[edit]

Lee's husband Nathan Lee and her father Rick Goff lobbied in Tallahassee to get Denise's Law passed, which recommended training for all 9-1-1 dispatchers.

Due to the two mishandled 9-1-1 calls in this case, more research revealed several issues countrywide in the 9-1-1 system, so a non-profit organization with the mission to "To promote and support public safety through uniform training, standardized protocols, defined measurable outcomes, and technological advances in the 9-1-1 system." was established in June 2008 in Lee's name.[1] Her husband and father continue to manage the Foundation, along with many other notable community leaders from the region.

Comments on above text

[edit]
  • The facts need to be massively expansed upon: enormous amounts of work have been done both by the family and the authorities to address the various failings, In particular:
  1. Denise Amber Lee Act and potential further FL State Law
    • Former is voluntary; latter would seek to make certification and training mandatory for all 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers in FL
    • New section needed to discuss these developments
  2. Denise Amber Lee Foundation
    • Clear but needs minor copyediting and rewording
  3. Sponsorship of same by Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice
    • Needs adding and citing as an important fact
  4. Parallel developments in other countries/states etc
    • Need looking into and adding if relevent. Eg, there was a similar situation in Australia recently

Criticism of above text

[edit]
  • Some near-WP:POV needs to be rebalanced or better phrased eg "Due to the two mishandled 9-1-1 calls in this case"
  • First paragraph not obviously connected to second paragraph in a casual reading; connection needs clarification
