Biography

Hello, welcome to my page. I am a student at the Everett Community College and I live in the Pacific Northwest. My hobbies are video games, spending time with family and friends, and doing math. I don’t have a job and don’t really do anything productive besides homework. I also throw in Track and Field and love trying new foods. I like to experiment and love science as well. When I grow up I wanna be a Neurosurgeon.

On Wikipedia, I could see myself editing and writing about superheroes cause I’m really into comics and things like that. I’m interested in the Wikipedia community as well. I’m interested in their community cause apparently they’re toxic and get really angry at each other which is really funny to me.

Article Evaluation

I chose my last name as my topic because I found it interesting to look deeper into it. I also wanted to find out more of my last name so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. I visited the "Hu" page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: lack of citations, relevancy, and dead links that just lead to no where.

Lack of Citations

One thing I have noticed from being on this Wikipedia page is the lack of citations. It only has around eighteen citations and that's not that much compared to other Wikipedia pages which have hundreds. The citations also seem to be extremely dated as well leading all the way back to the 1950's. One other thing I've noticed about the citations for this page is that most of the links are not reliable and seem to be from faulty websites.

Relevancy

I was on the page and I was wondering to myself when this page was last edited. To my surprise, from it being the 13th most common name in China it was last edited on October 3rd, 2019. After seeing the last edit date I got curious and checked the day it was first written and it was first edited in 2004! It was really shocking to me because the article itself is not long at all for it being 15 years old. It is also definitely not as well developed as other 15 year old pages. The article seems to be up-to-date but the citations don't seem to be. The citations are dated and don't really look reliable.

Dead Links

The one thing that surprised me the most was how many of the links in the citations section led to dead pages. Most of the citations led to dead pages and sites that could not be reached. The sites were also really dated leading back to 2006 and 1957. There were some .net websites as well but they did not have that much information ont eh last name and just had information on various villages in China.

Summary

Overall, I'd say that this Wikipedia page is alright. It has decent information of the origin of the last name Hu and has history of it leading to other countries as well such as Korea or Japan so it has a really strong foundation on the past of the name. It also has some relevant people with the last name of Hu which is not that relevant on the history of it. The history section on the page is the only really main part of the whole page but I think they should've added a variation section or a geographical distribution section as well.
