All About Dr. Andrew Niikondo[edit]

He was born in Onantsi Village near Ondangwa in the Oshana region on January 15, 1962 By the late Thomas Niikondo


WINDHOEK - Dr Andrew Niikondo, who previously served as the Head of the Public Management Department at the Polytechnic of Namibia, has been appointed Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Research.

From 1992 to 2002 he worked for the Ministry of Defence.

Before joining the Polytechnic of Namibia, he was a part-time lecturer at the University of Namibia.

He joined the Polytechnic of Namibia in 2003 first as lecturer, and was then promoted to the position of senior lecturer.

He has been serving as the Head of the Public Management Department since 2005.

In 2009, he was appointed Deputy Dean: School of Business and Management.

Niikondo has published a number of research articles and papers and presented them at conferences and workshops, both locally and internationally.

These include a recent paper, which identified unemployment as a major cause of urbanisation in Namibia.

The academic report, titled 'Migrants to Cities and Towns in Namibia: The Dynamics of Investing in Urban Versus Rural Areas' was recently launched at the Polytechnic of Namibia.

In addition, he co-authored the book: 'Beyond Inequality in Namibia', focusing on Women in Development.


Niikondo joined the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) at the age of seventeen after fleeing Namibia in 1979 to join Swapo's military wing in Angola.

In 1992, he returned to Namibia and completed his senior secondary certificate at Oluno Senior Secondary School.

He obtained his National Diploma in Public Administration at the University of Namibia (UNAM) in 1995, the B.Tech Public Management at Technikon South Africa in 1999.

In 2002, he completed his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) at the University of Western Cape (UWC), South Africa, specialising in Gender and Development.[1][2]

He wrote,and still writting different articles on different webpages such as" MIGRANTS TO CITIES AND TOWNS IN NAMIBIA: WHAT THEIR INTERESTS ARE?"[3]
