Terry Shannon is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and Lord Mayor of Cork. He has served on Cork City Council since 1999, representing the South-East ward.[1] Prior to his election to the council, Shannon was a member of the National Youth Committee, chairperson of Cork North Central Ógra, and election agent to TD Micheál Martin.[2] Shannon topped the poll in his first City council election with a 14.24% share of the vote.[3] He has been successfully re-elected twice, in 2004 and 2009. He was elected to the office of Lord Mayor on June 24, 2011, having previously served as Deputy Lord Mayor in 2009.[4][1] With many local authorities now chaired by Fine Gael, Shannon is one of the only Fianna Fáil mayors in Ireland.[5]
