Busting intellectual caps into the minds of fools, trolls, vandals, right-wing nuts, racists, fascists, thin-skinnned Randroids, doddering liberals, and self-appointed censors on Wikipedia with a (strictly metaphorical) AK-47 of Truth since 23 May 2005
An Open Message to the Honchos Who Keep Screwing with Userboxes
(WARNING! An actual opinion from the author/owner of the userpage here may be aired. I take no responsibility for your thin-skinnedness and inability to take criticism. You don't like it? That is your problem. You're about to leave a rude message just stop using Wikipedia? Think before you say that Mr. Admin/Arbitrator/Bureaucrat: as easy as it would be for me to walk away from the project, it'd be ten times easier for you (and your fellow honchos) to quit your ego-tripping and just resign from the position of power which you are about to abuse.)
To the self-appointed censors who have taken it upon themselves to act in a unprincipled, POV-pushing, anti-democratic, anti-Wikipedian crusade to clean out any vestige of "divisive" opinions from Wikipedia by wiping out the userboxes:
Just stop it already. You are acting in a way that is narrow-minded, one-sided, hypocritical, pedantic, high-handed, dirty-dealing, foolish and worst of all dead wrong.
It is not userboxes but you who are the ones who have divided the Wikipedia community, because you are the ones who have vandalized scores of Wikipedia userpages - and in doing so, betrayed a contempt for Wikipedians who have did what needed to be done and merely want a little bit in return.
You are the ones who have opened the doors to outright POV-pushing and edit warring en masse, because of a few thin-skinned people who are willing to sacrifice freedom of debate to score a temporary victory for themselves.
In other words: stop letting that shiny badge, secret decoder ring, or whatever is being given out to you honchos upon selection by Jimbo get to your head. Wikipedia is a volunteer project, but it is not a plantation. People put you into those positions because they trusted that you would use authority wisely. Before you act like an overseer, remember you're dealing with actual people who have actual opinions, and who volunteer their research and other contributions to the main space, and expect a little bit of space for themselves.
So just stop it with the anti-userbox wars. Wikipedia is a volunteer driven project; the editors, to a large extent, are the encyclopedia. When you piss off the volunteers, then guess what - you're the ones making this place "unencyclopedic".
Sincerely
