Thorpe-on-the-Hill is a village in Lincolnshire. In 1978 it had an approximate population of 700. It is about six miles from Lincoln, Lincolnshire's county town. The height of the hill is 26 metres above sea level, giving an indication of how flat the area is.
In common with lots of other rural villages, some of it's services have closed. It's post office closed in the late 1990's. There is now only one pub in the village and one church. The methodist chapel and two pubs also closed in the late 1990's.
The remaining pub is called The Railway Inn, named as it used to be a stopping point for travellers on the railway line from Newark to Lincoln.
It has a small primary school and most children of secondary school age attend North Hykeham or Robert Pattinson secondary schools.
