Wind turbines in Denmark
Wind turbine in Luxembourg

A wind turbine is fundamentally the same as any other turbine , turning kinetic energy contained in the fluid (Wind) into [[mechanical energy of a rotor. The rotor is coupled to an electric generator which converts the mechanical energy into electric energy. Other terms which are used include wind turbine generator (WTG) and wind energy converter (WEC). This article covers high performance wind energy plants for electricity generation. Further applications are covered in windrad and small wind-powered device. Wind turbines are often grouped into wind farms. The controversy about the political aspects of the wind energy are discussed in the article wind energy.

History of the wind energy plants[edit]

Today’s wind energy plants developed from Windmill technology and the knowledge over aerodynamics. The first plants for power generation developed for end of the 19th.century. The advances in fluid dynamics during the 1920s led to the formulation of … by Albert Betz. He demonstrated that only 16/27 or 59.3 % of the energy in the wind can be converted into energy. The typical shape of wind turbine blades is also a result of this research. From the early 1980s the ‘ Danish concept ‘ became predominant in the industry. Contrary to other experimental turbines like GROWIAN a simple design with horizontal rotation axle and three luvseitigen rotor blades., the durable plants too received, their size only gradually always continued to rise. In Denmark the bases for the modern wind power utilization were put at that time. With current feed law from 1991 the upswing began wind energy also in Germany. In the last years 20. Jahrhunderts provided the political basic conditions for one Boom wind energy equipment manufacturers and promoted the industrielle manufacturing. The development led to ever larger plants with adjustable rotor blades and variable number of revolutions, in addition, to political arguments between investors, opponents and proponents of the wind power utilization. With the follow-up law, renewable energy law, this development continued. After the data for the year 2005 is installed in Germany the world-wide largest rated output and produces more for electric current from wind energy than water power. Also with the production of the plants and the components Germany belongs to the technology and world market leaders. The market leader shank with again installed wind energy plants went 2004 for the first time at Spain.
