Harry “Skip” Brandon is a retired FBI deputy assistant director and security consultant.[1] As Deputy Assistant Director for the Counter-Terrorism and Counter Intelligence Division, Brandon directed the FBI’s worldwide counter-terrorism efforts and retained responsibility for a vast range of national security programs.[2] Following his retirement after 23 years of service with the FBI, Brandon became founding partner of Smith Brandon International in 1996, an intelligence and security consulting firm specializing in political and security assessments.[2]

Through his work in risk analysis with Smith Brandon International, Brandon has served as an investigator for companies working in highly volatile areas.[3] He has advised clients on employee and asset security in developing countries in addition to providing guidance on negotiating usage rights on land in disputed areas.[3] His work has led to his company being listed among Financial Times' top intelligence and security consulting companies.[2]

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico and a Master's in International Relations from the University of Texas at Austin in addition to being a graduate of the National War College in Washington, DC.[2] After serving six years with the United States Navy, Brandon began working for the FBI where he rose to be the Special Agent in charge of all activities in the Caribbean Basin before being promoted to deputy assistant director.[4]

Brandon has testified before the United State Congress[4][2] on matters related to counter-terrorism. He is also a frequent contributor to various media outlets for the discussion of counter-terrorism and national security issues, including ABC News, CNN, Fox News, NPR, Nightline and the Washington Post among others.[5][4][2].
