Kamran Qureshi [1] (born on 3rd October, 1975) is an award winning London based film and television Director & Producer.
Early Life
[edit]Kamran was born in Lahore, Punjab, to a moderate family. His mother, Shagufta Yousuf (1953-2008),[7] was a producer, and his father, Yousuf Qureshi (1949-1998), was involved in the chemicals business.[8]
Kamran belongs to an Arab tribe Qureshi, which was from Mecca. His forefathers migrated to British India. His grandfather was in Indian Railway, who married to an indian lady in Dehli and at the time of partition in 1947, he was posted in beautiful city, Lahore, now in Pakistan.
Kamran spent his childhood in Karachi. He loved to read story books, novels & literary books in his childhood and always spent all his pocket money to buy books.
He always played active role in school activities, acted in school dramas and was a member of school’s music band.
Early Career (1993 -1999)
[edit]In 1992, he did computer courses (dBase, Lotus 123, and WordPerfect) and got job in Digital video effects company, Hivision. He purchased his 1st professional video camera in 1993 and started making private movies and renting it out.
In 1994, He started his own Digital Video Effects company. His first professional TV job was in 1994, when he was hired to put digital video effects for the drama series, Padaash in PTV, Pakistan Television, and Pepsi Top of the Pops in NTM, Network Television Marketing. Being a DFS engineer, he was also indulged in editing and did several projects as linear editor and segment director.
Mr. Rimmal Khan was his mentor in direction, whom he worked with in different projects. Kamran then went on and worked freelance for Indus TV Network, the first satellite channel, owned by Mr. Ghazanfer Ali, on talkshows, magazine shows, dramas.
In 1999, he purchased his broadcast (DVCAM) camera and started making his own productions.
2000-2010
[edit]Kamran became a renowned name in doing shows for his treatment and techniques. He did a three days branded TV transmission on the eve of John Player's Gold Leaf Voyage of Discovery 2000 yacht's arrival at Karachi Port. He did several musical shows, concerts, talk shows, educational shows, etc.
His first very famous show was Ariel Mothers (aka Ariel Maa), hosted by Sania Saeed, which brought him fame and recognition internationally. The program won a Best Talkshow Private Production Award from National Television. The show was based on Mothers and with his team, he visited almost whole country to meet all types of mothers and recorded their stories. Since then, his major part of work was on women and their issues.
He shot documentaries on all armed forces in 2002 at the time of escalation. Then he moved to dramas in 2003 and his first telefilm Murad (aka Eunuch's Motherhood) based on Eunuchs, won Best Telefilm Award in Indus Telefilm Festival the same year. He then made 12 more TV Movies in a series and named it, "Maa Aur Mamta" (aka Mother & Motherhood) which won him seven awards in one day in First Indus Drama Awards.
