Introduction

[edit]

Hi everyone, I'm Irina and I just finished my first year as an Economics student. I'm taking CIS 2050 to fill the distribution requirement, but I'm also looking forward to working with all of you!

Personal Life

[edit]

I was born in Mississauga, Ontario [1] and spent most of my life growing up in Port Credit which is sometimes referred to as 'Mississauga's Village on the Lake' [2]. However, as a child, I also briefly lived in Florida and Texas.

This summer is going to be my second season at Ontario Place working as an Admissions Attendant. I'm hoping the weather won't be too hot or too cold to scare the Guests away!

Some of the things I'd like to do sometime in my life are:

  1. One of my favourite shows is The Amazing Race [3], so it'd be a dream to someday compete on it if Canada ever gets its own version.
  2. Travel to every single place on my poster "101 Places to See Before You Die"
  3. Do a cross-Canada roadtrip.

Education and Academic Career

[edit]

I attended only one high school from 2006 to 2010, Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School, which is located in Mississauga, Ontario. For high school I was pretty active in sports such as volleyball, judo, and soccer.

Hobbies

[edit]

Some of my hobbies include:

  • Taking random pictures
  • Ice skating
  • Driving aimlessly
  • Judo

Judo

[edit]

I started judo when I was 13 years old on the advice of my dad. He wanted me to take self-defense classes and so he signed me up for a club near my house. That was initally my intention as well when I first signed up. However, the club I went to was very focused on competitions and the only way you could be promoted to the next belt was by winning first place at a competition.

When I first started out, I thought judo was mainly about strength because of all the required throws, grappling, joint locks and chokes. However, it became immediately clear that it was about endurance, speed and agility.

Ice Skating

I started ice skating when I was six years old. Thirteen years later, I still remember my very first time getting on the ice. As soon as I stepped on, I fell right down. I got back up and then immediately fell back down again. Ice skating is one of my favourite hobbies because since I only do it recreationally, it doesn't require much endurance. I love the feeling of gliding down the ice and it's a nice change away from practicing a sport/martial art that can get competitive sometimes. One of my favourite places to skate is at Harbourfront Toronto.
