Āvāsa (Pāli) is aBuddhist term, referring to "a site occupied by monks during the rainy season retreat."[1] It also refers to the "fermentation" of "sensuality, views, becoming, and ignorance," which keep one caught in samsara.[2]

Etymology[edit]

Literally: effluent, fermentation.[2]

In the Pali canon, avasa defines the four qualityes "sensuality, views, becoming, and ignorance--that flow out of the mind and create the flood of the round of death and birth."[2]
