HP IT Management (Business Technology Optimization) software[edit]

HP IT Management Software is a family of Enterprise software solutions sold by the HP Software & Solutions division of information technology company Hewlett-Packard (HP). Beginning in Sept. 2005 through 2008, HP purchased a total of 12 software companies as part of a publicized, deliberate strategy to augment its software offerings for large business customers.[1]

Products & Solutions[edit]

IT management software is also called Business_Technology_Optimization business technology optimization (BTO) software and is the largest category of software sold by the company. BTO is part of an emerging business philosophy to manage IT resources as a business rather than as a service bureau. HP BTO software is designed to help businesses reduce costs and make better business decisions by allocating IT spend and resources based on business priorities; automating key processes across IT strategy, applications, and operations; and measuring IT effectiveness and efficiency from a business perspective.

BTO Products & Solutions[edit]

HP markets its enterprise business technology optimization software products via product centers. The centers and the products in each are:

HP Application Security Center consists of products that were formerly part of the SPI Dynamics software company portfolio. The center includes HP Assessment Management Platform, a distributed, scalable web application security testing platform; HP DevInspect, application security software used during development to automatically find and fix application vulnerabilities; HP QAInspect for website security testing; HP WebInspect for web application security testing and assessment of complex web applications built on emerging Web 2.0 technologies. HP WebInspect includes scanning capabilities and broad security assessment coverage.

HP Business Availability Center is a suite of software products for composite application management. The suite is a top-down, end-to-end lifecycle solution to seamlessly monitor composite applications running in heterogenous environments, isolate problems, and identify root causes. The suite includes HP Business Process Insight software for monitoring the performance of back-end business processes; HP Business Process Monitor software to identify availability and performance issues; HP Business Service Level Management software to proactively manage service levels from the business perspective; HP Diagnostics software for application root-cause-analysis to identify and resolve performance problems and boost application availability.

Additional Business Availability offerings include HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping, for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; HP End User Management software to proactively monitor application availability in real time from the end-user perspective; HP Problem Isolation software for a single point of access into application problems and likely causes; HP Real User Monitor software for visibility into the experience and behavior of every user, from every location, for critical web applications; HP SiteScope software to maintain the availability and performance of distributed IT infrastructures; HP System Availability Management software used to collect and monitor system availability and performance data across the enterprise; HP TransactionVision provides business transaction monitoring of customer-facing transactions; and HP Universal CMDB software, a configuration management database for IT organizations implementing business service management and ITIL-based initiatives.

HP Data Center Automation Center consists of the HP Business Service Automation Essentials, a community portal and an annual subscription service that provides security and compliance policies for server, desktop, and network devices for businesses using HP Data Center Automation Center software. Additional products include the HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping software for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; HP Network Automation software to track, regulate, and automate configuration and software changes across globally distributed, multi-vendor networks through process-powered automation; HP Operations Orchestration software with run-book automation capabilities to eliminate manual and repetitive IT processes; and HP Release Control software, a decision-support solution that ties the change planning and analysis process with automated change execution and validation to help reduce the risk of service downtime.

Additional Data Automation Center offerings include HP Server Automation software for lifecycle management of enterprise servers and applications—from discovery to provisioning, patching to configuration management, and script execution to compliance assurance; HP Service Automation Reporter software for lifecycle management of enterprise servers and applications—from discovery to provisioning, patching to configuration management, and script execution to compliance assurance—and automation of operations and processes across disparate IT teams and systems; HP Service Automation Visualizer software that provides a complete, interactive map of the IT environment, including servers, software, network devices, and storage infrastructure for automated change and compliance management; HP Storage Essentials software, a standards-based SRM solution that manages, visualizes, and reports on enterprise heterogeneous storage and infrastructure; and HP Universal CMDB software, a configuration management database.

HP Network Management Center consists of eight products including HP Network Node Manager (NNM) Advanced Edition software for intelligent fault and availability management for networks; HP Network Node Manager, automated network management software that enables IT network operations teams to efficiently manage a network; HP Operations Support Systems Portfolio software for managing next-generation networks and services and cover service assurance, activation, and billing usage; HP Performance Insight software for multi-domain IT service-level reporting and capacity planning; HP Route Analytics Management software for routing and traffic flow management for enterprise networks; HP TeMIP software, a carrier-grade OSS service-assurance solution for multi-vendor and multi-technology environments; Report Pack for Cisco Wireless LAN Pack, and Report Pack for Radius Call Detail v 1.3 for insights into every aspect of the RADIUS architecture by focusing on the accounting data sent to the RADIUS server.

HP Operations Center consists of HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping software for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; HP GlancePlus Pak software for examining system activities, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, and tuning IT for more efficient operation; HP Operations Dashboard software with personalized views for key users and stakeholders into end-to-end IT infrastructure service health; HP Operations Manager Dependency Mapping Automation software that allows IT departments to better prioritize IT problems based on business impact; HP Operations Manager i 8.0 software that helps IT to decrease the time to incident resolution, reduce mean time to recovery, align operational activities with the needs of business and reduce operational expenditures; HP Operations Smart Plug-ins, ready-to-go modules that provide a link to bring databases and applications under control with instant intelligence; HP Performance Manager software for performing in-depth examinations of resource utilization and performance trends of applications, physical and virtual systems, and services; HP Reporter software, a management-reporting solution for service-level reporting and planning; HP SiteScope software, used to maintain the availability and performance of distributed IT infrastructures; and HP Universal CMDB software, a configuration management database for business service management and ITIL-based initiatives.

HP Performance Center consists of four products inclluding HP Center Management for Performance Center software for out-of-the-box QA workflow, demand, project, and resource management for QA organizations; HP Diagnostics software used to identify and resolve performance problems and boost application availability via application root-cause analysis; HP LoadRunner Monitors to isolate bottlenecks with server monitors to help IT measure the performance of every tier, server, and component during a load test; and HP LoadRunner software used for application performance testing, stress testing, and advanced diagnostics from a single control point.

HP Project and Portfolio Management Center consists of nine products including HP Deployment Management module used to accelerate the deployment of changes to applications portfolio; HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping software for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; HP Project and Portfolio Management(PPM) Demand Management module for consolidating, prioritizing, and fulfilling routine and strategic demands placed on IT; HP PPM Financial Management module for real-time visibility into financial performance for IT portfolio management; HP PPM Portfolio Management module to govern entire portfolios of IT projects, applications, and opportunities in real-time; HP PPM Program Management module to collaboratively manage programs from concept to completion; HP PPM Project Management module integrates project management and process control to reduce project complexity and reduce costs; HP PPM Resource Management module provides resource capacity and allocation management; HP Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) Time Management module for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; and HP Universal CMDB software, a configuration management database for business service management and ITIL-based initiatives.

HP Quality Center includes HP Business Process Testing for Oracle environments; HP Business Process Testing software enables business analysts to collaborate with QA by designing and executing software tests without any programming knowledge; HP Center Management for Quality Center software, a specialized project-management solution for overseeing complex QA workflows; HP Change Impact Testing for SAP Applications software analyzes proposed system changes, such as those from SAP transports, and makes risk-based testing recommendations; HP Functional Testing software automates system and regression software testing to meet aggressive test project deadlines; HP Quality Center software, an integrated, web-based application for software requirements, test, and defect management; HP QuickTest Professional software for agile regression testing; HP Requirements Management module to capture, manage, and track requirements along the development and testing cycle; HP Service Test Management module for increased SOA service quality; HP Service Test software used to test services for both functionality and performance; and HP WinRunner software that provides automated functional and regression tests that address all major software applications and environments.

HP SOA (service-oriented architecture) Center includes HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping software for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; HP SOA Governance Interoperability Framework (GIF) to publish and discover business service information across products from multiple vendors; HP SOA Policy Enforcer software to proactively manage SOA services through resource monitoring and analysis; HP SOA Registry Foundation, a Universal Description Discovery and Integration (UDDI) standard registry for embedded vendor applications, inactive and occasionally used applications, and developer environments; HP SOA Systinet, an SOA governance and lifecycle management platform; HP SOA Systinet contract management software for negotiating and specifying service-level agreement objectives and operational procedures; HP SOA Systinet policy management software used to simplify the manually intensive business-service validation process by providing policy conformance checks with a click of a button; HP SOA Systinet registry/repository and information management, a standards-based repository for the publication, categorization, and discovery of SOA services and artifacts; HP SOA Systinet service lifecycle management for end-to-end control; and HP Universal CMDB software, a configuration management database.

HP Service Management Center includes HP Asset Manager software for sound stewardship of IT assets through IT financial management and software license compliance; HP Connect-It software with a variety of pre-packaged integrations to enable an organization’s infrastructure to respond faster to business needs; HP DecisionCenter software to record IT service management data and relate it to business impacts; HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping software for real-time visibility into the dynamic relationships between applications and the IT infrastructure; HP Service Manager software, a fully integrated IT service desk suite for resolving service problems; and HP Universal CMDB software, a configuration management database.
