Grove has been criticised for not understanding the importance of architecture and misrepresenting the cost.[1] In February 2011, he gave "not-quite-true information to Parliament" by saying that one individual made £1m from his work when the true figure was £700k for 5 advisors at different times over a 4 year period.[1] He told a Free Schools conference in March 2011 that 'no one in this room is here to make architects richer' specifically mentioning architect Richard Rogers[2].
