Mistral was founded as a duo in 2019, in Warsaw, Poland. Mistral's music is reminiscent to that of the duo Alcest, which they draw inspiration from. The overall sound and nostalgic, somewhat depressing atmosphere are grounds to describe it as blackgaze or post black metal.
To date, Mistral has a debut album and a number of demos under its belt. Around the time of the project's birth, the sole founding member, Jan Obara, recorded a series of demos the have been uploaded to Youtube. In 2020, joined by Mikołaj Banaszczyk on drums, he began to record what would be Mistral's debut album, Somnifer. The LP came out October 31st, 2020. It will also be released in cassette tape format through Folkvangr Productions in early 2021.
