Jean Porter born March 20, 1955 is a theologian who focuses on Christian morals and ethics. In 2005, she was the President of the Society of Christian Ethics and is a member of the Advisory Committee for Faculty Development of the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. She is currently a professor at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Her Parents were Frank Porter and June Heidelberg Porter (June Newton-Ada Oklahoma) of Spearman Texas in Hansford County Texas. She is married to Joseph Blenkinsopp (Emeritus Faculty) John A. O’Brien Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies Notre Dame.

Jean Porter graduated Spearman High School Spearman Texas 1973 as Valedictorian. She scored a perfect 1600 test score on the SAT test. She was a national merit scholar. She was active in Speech Debate Drama and was winner for 4 years in a row of the State Debate Title Womens. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. She then got her Masters of Divinity from Weston School of Theology in 1980. In 1984, Jean Porter received her Ph. D from the Department of Religious studies at Yale University.

Career[edit]

Jean Porter is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Religious Ethics, the British Journal, and the Studies in Christian Ethics. In addition, she is a member of the Advisory Committee for Faculty Development of the Association of Theological Schools. Jean Porter received the Luce Fellowship in Theology in 1997. Additionally, in 2005, she acted as the President of the Society of Christian Ethics. Jean Porter is currently a professor at the University of Notre Dame.
