From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Black Rhinos are an obscure Canadian rock band from Toronto. The band was started in 2005 by lead guitarist and vocalist, Jed Manson. They have released six albums since then. Notable singles include Quick Draw, Tiger Stripes, and their parody song, Panic! At the Dentist. They are known for being unusually private about their music, as their albums can only be found in very select stores across both North America and Europe. Their preferred venues when touring tend to be places that are off the beaten path, such as malls and abandoned buildings. Pictures are prohibited at these concerts in order to preserve their secrecy. For this same reason, the band never stops for interviews. Despite this level of secrecy The Black Rhinos are well known by avid music collectors and devoted fans. They get their name from the animal, the black rhino. Before the release of Quick Draw, their name was The Black Armored Horses. However, it was changed in January of 2007 for unknown reasons.

History[edit]

Jed Manson (vocals, lead guitar), Boaz Pierce (backup vocals, guitar), Scott Pavana (drums) and Ricky Jones (bass, manager) formed a rock group named The Black Armored Horses in early 2005 in Jones, Pavana, and Pierce's hometown of Toronto, Canada. Manson was originally from Portland, Oregon and later moved to Toronto in 1999. Later, Scott was replaced by Skip E. Lee on drums when Scott quit the band to join a band named Crusade which never made its debut. Lee helped the band to change its genre to progressive rock[1]
