Formation
[edit]The Band Of Endless Noise started off in 2000 in Racibórz, Poland as a post-rock bedroom project of Andrzej Widota, Adam Sanocki and Tomasz Brzozowski, then members of post-hardcore band Military Fly. Initially, 8-bit loops, undistorted electric guitar and bass, a mandolin and an accordion were the only instruments used. The original trio were soon joined by drummer Sylwester Koral and started working on the self-titled debut album.
The Band Of Endless Noise with Anna Nacher and Marek Styczyński
[edit]The recordings on the debut album featured Anna Nacher and Marek Styczyński of Polish experimental music legends The Magic Carpathians and Atman. The album was was released on CD and MC by Antena Krzyku in Poland and distributed in the USA by Revolver. It got positive reviews, Midheaven distribution newsletter describing it as: "excellent new Polish project based around various instrumental loops employing most every instrument available in Eastern Europe". "We, Wearing The Sunglasses", a song off that album, was included on a compilation album Cutting Edge Music From Eastern Europe released by Tamizdat (USA). The compilation also featured such prominent musicians as Iva Bittova, Vera Bila and Robotobibok. "We, Wearing The Sunglasses" was praised by John Peel, who aired it on his BBC radio show. Right after the album release, the band was joined by Adam Busuleanu on keyboards and electronics (including a Fender Rhodes piano) and the band toured Poland extensively, sharing the stage with The Magic Carpathians, Kury, Ssaki, Le Plastique Mystification, Lvmen, Arszyn, Emiter, Mordy, De Facto (featuring members of At The Drive-In and Mars Volta), Voo Voo, Hati, Oranżada and others. The record got a vinyl re-release on Gusstaff Records in 2018. The cover art was re-designed by Łukasz Paluch.
Riders On The Bikes
[edit]Riders On The Bikes, the band's second album was released in 2005 on Post_Post/Rockers Publishing and it was produced by Mapa’s Marcin Dymiter and featured a new band member – Tomasz Gadomski on percussion. The album, a bit more upbeat than its predecessor, was praised by the critics for successfully combining post-rock and psychedelic aesthetic with ethnic instrumentation and Eastern European spirit. Serpent, a leading Polish on-line independent record distribution included Riders On The Bikes in its 2005 Top 10 albums. It also got 4.5 stars in Metal Hammer (PL). Just before the album release The Band Of Endless Noise toured France with Kristen as part of the Polish Year in France. The band also performed live in Poland and Germany. Riders On The Bikes was re-released as a limited vinyl record on Don't Sit On My Vinyl!/Gusstaff Records in 2021 and is currently out of print. The all-new cover art was designed by Łukasz Paluch.
Post-Riders On The Bikes
[edit]In 2008 The Band Of Endless Noise was invited to play at Off Festival, the most important alternative music festival in Poland. The line-up for the festival featured Anna Nacher, Marek Styczyński and drummer Arek Lerch (of Sunrise, Czerń, Ssaki and others, later to form So Slow with Adam Sanocki). In 2009 work on new material commenced and new members were recruited: Bartłomiej Mielnik on drums and vocalist Katarzyna Gierszewska. In the meantime, in 2010 the band composed/improvised a live soundtrack for the classic silent movie Nanook of the North, commissioned by Silent Film Festival in Cracow and performed in several other venues afterwards.
The Blue Nun
[edit]The Band's third long-player was released in 2012 on Falami Records, a record label specialising in Silesian alternative music. It was self-produced by the Band and mastered by Bob Weston of Chicago Mastering Service and Shellac fame. It was well-received by the critics. According to Jacek Świąder of Gazeta Wyborcza, the Band "contaminated avant-garde with songs" on The Blue Nun. The album was promoted with a string of live appearances at the most prestigious festivals in Poland: Off Festival, Unsound and Ars Cameralis, where the Band shared the stage with krautrock legends Faust. The Band also performed in front of club audiences in Poland and Berlin.
Bandwagon Spectacular
[edit]Bandwagon Spectacular, was released in May 2024 (CD and Digital). It was engineered by Michał Kupicz and it marks the return of the original drummer Sylwester Koral. The music is more focused and has been described as psychedelic post-punk. The vinyl version of the album is expected in September 2024.
Side Projects
[edit]Andrzej Widota cooperated with The Magic Carpathians sharing the stage with such artists as Charalambides and Primordial Undermind. This collaboration was documented on three CD releases by The Magic Carpathians Project: Gharana on Reverb Worship (GB), Acusmatic Psychogeography (featuring Eric Arn) on World Flag and Enjoy the Trees on World Flag/Greenpeace. Andrzej Widota also appeared on stage as a member of Damo Suzuki's Network (also featuring Igor Pudło of Skalpel, Maciej Frett of Job Karma and Anna Nacher and Marek Styczyński of the Magic Carpathians). He also co-formed Katie and Me Meet Marlene with Katarzyna Gierszewska-Widota, a live project specialising in deconstructing the songs of Marlene Dietrich. KMMM shared the stage with Tarwater, Barbara Morgestern, So Slow, Artur Maćkowiak and performed at Ars Cameralis festival in Katowice (twice) as well as Opole Songwriters' Festival. In 2013 Adam Sanocki co-founded post-hardcore experimental band So Slow, signed to Instatnt Classic and featuring members of such diverse outfits as Czerń, Ssaki, Sunrise, Iron to Gold, Counterweight, Alameda and T'ien Lai. He appears on the band's most acclaimed releases: Dharavi (Instant Classic, 2014, CD/LP), 777/Noyon (Antena Krzyku, 2014, 7"), Nomads (Instant Classic, 2016, CD/LP) and 3T (Unquiet Records, 2017, CD).
