Kayti Didriksen (1972-) is an American painter born in Cheverly, Maryland. She graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art. After college she traveled the US, holding art-related jobs such as print-maker, paper-maker and bookbinder.
Upon returning to Washington DC, Didriksen started painting murals in area homes and businesses leading to the co-creation of the mural and faux finishing company "Offbeat Interiors"[1], with Stacey Matarrese[2]. It was during this time that Kayti developed a technique for capturing movement in her paintings by layering blind-contour drawings of live performances. This technique helped her to create close bonds with many local alt-folk artists such as Vandaveer, John Bustine[3], and Justin Jones[4].
In 2004, Kayti Didriksen's painting "Man of Leisure, King George"[5] created much controversy when it was removed from the City Museum in Washington. It is painted in the style of Edouard Manet’s Olympia, but shows a nude George W. Bush on a chaise lounge, with Vice President Dick Cheney standing nearby holding a cushion with a crown and a miniature oil rig on it.
She currently lives in [Philadelphia] where she teaches, models, and continues to paint performances and murals.
