John the Great

Early Life

John the Great was born in Liverpool, England and he first got into magic around the age of 11 when his dad saw an advert in the local Echo newspaper advertising the formation of the Merseyside Junior Magic Circle. John and his best friend were soon enrolled into the MJMC and that same year, John received Sooty's Magic Set as a Christmas present.

First Performances

From a very early age, John was taken to the nearby Methodist church by his grandparents and it was in the church youth and children's clubs that he first performed his magic. John had also been a member of the Boy's Brigade based at Anglican church and he used this for additional performances.

Memorable Performances

John's family took him on holiday to the Butlins site in Minehead, Somerset where TV personality, Stephen Mulhern was working as a Red Coat magician. After speaking with Stephen after one of his performances, it was agreed that John would be allowed to perform on the main Butlins if he ever went back to the same site with some of his own tricks. A year later, the family returned to Butlins and true to his word, Stephen had John the Great step onto the main stage for a memorable performance in front of a large crowd.

Current Status

John continued to grow as a magician but life and other circumstances, meant that he somewhat stalled in relation to this particular hobby. Whilst he still did the occasional show, things started to really take off during the COVID-19 Global Pandemic is when John first started to think about launching his very own Magic Moments Youtube channel. After the last lockdown, the Youtube channel was launched and John also joined an adult version of Magic Circle, something he had previously never got round to doing.
