The Honda CBR600F4 is a sport motorcycle (or sportbike) that was produced between 1999 and 2000 and is powered by a 599 cc liquid cooled, DOHV inline four cylinder engine. The CBR600F4 is a descendant of the famous CBR600F (or Hurricane) introduced in 1987 as Honda's first fully-faired sportbike. The improvements of the CBR600F4 over it's predescessor, the CBR600F3, include a redesigned lighter and more powerful 110 HP engine, a new dual stage ram air system, a new aluminum frame which is 15.4 lbs lighter than the old steel frame, and fully adjustable front and rear suspension[1]. In 1999 and 2000, Nicky Hayden and Kurtis Roberts continued in the long tradition of Honda CBR600 racing by winning the AMA 600 Super Sport Class title, both riding a CBR600F4.

Evolution of Honda CBR600 F-Series[edit]

1987 - Honda introduces the CBR600F, which came to be known as the "Hurricane"

  • Honda's first fully-faired sport bike; engineers were able to focus more on the engine than cosmetics of the engine (honda.com)
  • Liquid cooled DOHC inline four cylinder engine produced 83 HP
  • In 1990, many engine revisions including new porting, ... to produce 10 HP more

1991 - CBR600F2 - redesigned from the ground up

  • lighter engine, more compact; more oversquare dimensions, bigger carbs, higher compression, reduced internal friction
  • stiffer frame, shorter wheelbase, better suspension, stronger brakes

1995 - CBR600F3

  • Dual stage Ram air system
  • higher compression ratio

1999 - CBR600F4 - totally redesigned

  • Redesigned engine is lighter, more compact, more powerful
  • engine has aluminum composite cylinder sleeves

  • New Alumium Pro Frame (TM) - more rigid than old steel frame, yet 15.4 lb lighter
  • dry weight = 372.6 lb.

Racing History of CBR600F4[edit]

In 1999 - Nicky Hayden with Erion Racing wins 5 of 12 races to win the AMA 600 Super Sport Class title -F4 riders win 6 of 12 series races.

In 2000 - Kurtis Roberts with Erion Racing wins title in last race of series -F4 riders win 4 of 12 series races.

Want to expand this section some. I have more information from honda.com about the history of cbr600 racing and could put a intro paragraph which explains how since the introduction of the CBR600F, these bikes have dominated the 600 Super Sport Class.(even more so than the F4's did)
