Public toilets in Austria, commonly called toilettes, are found at a rate of around 37 per 100,000 people. There is a special key available to people with disabilities to access toilets that would otherwise be locked.
Public toilets[edit]
The local word for public toilet is toilette.[1]
A 2021 study found there were 37 public toilets per 100,000 people.[2] Some subway stations have public toilets, though they may charge a small fee to access.[3] The typical charge to use a public toilet is €0,30-€0,50. Toilet paper is almost always provided.[1] Western Europe tends to use flush toilets, with some older public toilets possibly having pull cords instead of handles or buttons.[1][4]
There is a Euro Key, which allows people with disabilities to have it to access 12,000 otherwise locked public toilets in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Switzerland.[5]
