Public toilet[edit]

Public toilets are called zahod or WC.[1][2]

There are few public toilets in Croatia.[3] A 2021 study found there were 18 public toilets per 100,000 people.[4]

There is a mix of sit and squat toilets.[2] with squat toilets the most common across the Balkans.[5] Public toilets often do not have toilet paper.[2] The typical charge to use a public toilet is Kn2 or 3.[2][6]

Public toilets are most likely to be located in bus or train stations.  Outside these, they are rarely found in Croatia.[1] Bars, cafes and restaurants almost always have toilets that are available for use by clients.[1][3] There are few public toilets in Zadar County, and most people buy a drink at a café instead so they can access their toilet facilities when the need arises.  There were pay public toilets in the marketplace in Zadar County. There were public toilets near the Kolovare beach.[6]
