Public toilets in Finland are found at a rate of 41 per 100,000 and charge some of the most expensive access fees in Western Europe.

Public toilets[edit]

The local word for public toilet is WC.[1]

A 2021 study found there were 41 public toilets per 100,000 people.[2] The most common type of toilet is a sit toilet, and they almost always provide toilet paper.[1] The handheld portable bidet was popular in Finland in the 2010s.[3]

Public toilets in Finland generally charge around €1 to use, though in some cases it may be closer to €0.50. [1][4] They are some of the most expensive public toilets in Western Europe.[4]

Public toilets operated by the National Road Service in Finland require sending a text message to use ones located in remote locations.  These public toilets also charged a fee to use.[5]

Toilets: A Spotter’s Guide published in 2016 included a public toilet in the woods near Pudasjarvi.[6]
