Public toilets in Taiwan are found at a rate of around eleven per 100,000 people with squat toilets being one of the most common types.

A 2021 study found there were eleven public toilets per 100,000 people.[1]
In 2018, squat toilets were one of the most common type of public toilets.[2] Some places offer a choice between sit toilets and squat toilets. [3] Toilet paper is often sold in vending machines in Taiwan, though in a few nicer establishments it may be provided free of cost.[4][5]
Public toilets in train stations and the subway are generally free. These public toilets though do charge for things like toilet paper. There has been criticism of this system, and starting in the mid-2010s the practice has begun to be phased out.[6]
