History[edit]
Del Oro High School opened its doors to exclusively freshmen and sophomores on August 17th, 2022, under the school's first and current principal, Gail Bentley.[2] The Class of 2025 is planned to be Del Oro High School's inaugural graduating class.
Del Oro runs on a block schedule without bells. Students attend three courses per day, where classroom instruction lasts for two hours at a time. The schedule alternates daily between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd periods one day, then 4th, 5th, and 6th periods the next. The campus has a modern architectural design in the hopes of fostering collaboration among students and faculty, and to nurture an environment that "resembles a college campus more than it does a traditional high school."[3]
Academics[edit]
Del Oro High School offers an A-G college-preparatory curriculum, along with opportunities for students to earn college credit through dual enrollment classes with the Kern Community College District. These courses serve as the school's alternative to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, while also maintaining the same academic rigor for students to prepare for college-level coursework. The school also provides Career Technical Education (CTE), Project Lead the Way (PLTW), and Agriculture pathways.
Athletics[edit]
Del Oro High School's athletic director is Shannon Secrist. The sports mascot is the Suns, with the school colors being brown, silver, and gold. The following are the sports that Del Oro participates in, as well as their respective seasons:
