My name is Kent Engel, and I am currently a Junior at Ohio University majoring in animation and game design. This wikipedia page was made for an english class in which we had to create a Wikipedia article from a topic that did not yet have one. Upon joining the Wikipedia community, I was immediately alarmed at how amazing and resourceful Wikipedia actually is.
Personal Life[edit]
Childhood[edit]
I was born in Cleveland, OH and grew up in the small suburb of Twinsburg. This was a really nice and safe place to grow up as a child, but once I started high school I realized that as soon as I got the chance I would move as far away as possible. When I was a child I enjoyed playing various sports, including ones that we made up such as flashlight tag, with the other kids in the neighborhood. At around the age of 10, I got my first game system called the Sony Playstation and my life changed forever.
Current Life[edit]
As of right now, I still enjoy sports and exercise but video games are a huge part of my life. I really enjoy playing them, analyzing them, and creating ideas for ones that I will hopefully be able to produce in the near future. Along with designing games, part of my major requires me to know how to create 3D objects and animate them in a program called Maya. While this is enjoyable to me, I am much more interested in the game design process as a whole rather than focusing on small steps such as only being an animator or a 3D modeler.
Future Plans[edit]
During my last two summer breaks away from school, I plan on attaining internships from either animation studios or game design studios to get some field experience and resume fillers before graduation. Prior to graduation, I plan on getting a job at a small game development studio, working my way up, and eventually owning my own studio in California. I will also have a fat pad with a dope ass car. Word.
Interests[edit]
If you haven't figured out by now, I am very interested in video games; but technology also intrigues me. One of my favorite shows is Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman, because it covers a lot of technologies that push the boundaries of possibility. I am also interested in TV and film, and am currently pursuing a corollary in film in addition to my degree in media arts and studies. During high school I played in various bands and played a few concerts which really got me into music. At that time, I was a cynical asshole who only liked Hardcore and Metal but now I have learned to appreciate many genres of music. Some of my current favorite genres include Reggae, Old-School Hip-Hop, and Funk. Like previously stated, I still like sports and my favorite sports currently are basketball and soccer. My favorite basketball team is the Cleveland Cavaliers and my favorite soccer club is Juventus.
