Apple turnover[edit]

The pastry « Chausson aux pommes » (literally: apple slippers), or Apple turnover, is made with puff pastry in a semi-circular or triangular form, containing a similar filling than that of an apple pie, that is preferentially eaten oven warm. In the city of Saint-Calais (Sarthe), where it was supposedly invented in 1630, following an epidemic, a yearly festival at the beginning of September takes place around the pastry and its legend [1].

In Belgium, the pastry is made with shortcrust pastry, and is called « gosette aux pommes »[2][3].
