From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kalloor is a family that is prominent in the Christian communities of Kerala, India especially in Pathanamthitta and Kottarakara. The Kalloor family of Thrikkannamangal, Kottarakara is a rather large family. Reported to have moved from Pathanamthitta about 200 years ago, the Kalloor patriarch had three sons. These three became the heads of the Kalloor, Kalluttankuzhi and Thondil families, all of which remain prominent in Kottarakara. The head of the Kalloor branch, Koshy, had seven sons. The fourth, Kalloor Chacko, is especially noteworthy because of his role in pioneering the Pentecostal movement in India. Chacko encouraged an American missionary, Robert F. Cook, to relocate to his town from North India. Upon doing so, Cook established the work of the Church of God in Kerala. From that fledgling work, based in that small town, came many of the great number of Pentecostal churches that have now spread all over the country of India. After a few years, Chacko and Cook parted company because of organizational and doctrinal disagreements. Cook relocated to Mulakuzha and Chacko aligned with independent indigenous workers. The Church of God in India has grown to an organization with churches in every state of India. One of Chacko's grandsons now holds ownership of the original church, which is the oldest Pentecostal church registered with the government.
