Indiahandmade is an e-commerce portal by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, to enable local weavers and artisans of India to sell their products online. This is an official platform from the government of India that facilitates the weavers and artisans to register for free, use the platform for selling without any platform charges and commission.[1] [2] The portal was launched on 22nd April, 2023. Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Commerce and Industry launched the portal in Gujarat.[3]

Designed and developed by Digital India Corporation under the Digital India Programme, Indiahandmade empowers the weavers and artisans community while providing the opportunity for buyers to purchase authentic handmade items from a reliable source. The virtual Indian store aims to help the artisans get remunerated fairly with no middlemen to manipulate prices and urban Indians will get access to 100 percent authentic and best handcrafts products emerging straight from the makers.[4]

Introduction[edit]

India is well-known for its rich cultural heritage and traditional crafts, which include handloom and handicraft products. Handloom refers to the process of weaving cloth using a manually operated loom, while handicrafts are items made by skilled artisans using traditional techniques.

Indiahandmade facilitates buyers from across the country to get authentic handloom and handicrafts directly from the artisans and weavers of India, while giving them an opportunity to showcase and sell their products free of cost.

Objective[edit]

To provide products from more than 35 Lakh Handloom weavers & 27 Lakh Handicraft artisans directly to the consumers while eliminating the middlemen, the Ministry of Textiles has developed an E-Commerce portal for handicrafts and handloom sector. Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Commerce and Industry launched the portal in Gujarat.

With the help of this virtual Indian store, the artisans will get remunerated fairly with no middlemen to manipulate prices and city dwelling urban Indians will get access to 100% authentic & best handcrafts products emerging straight from the heart of India.
