It’s commonly referred to as slacktivism or clicktivism because it does not require much physical sacrifice “Slacktivism is such a new phenomenon that there are very few articles about it in sociology journals. Still, there is much debate among journalists and bloggers as to whether slacktivism is useful as a tool of social change.” This cultivates new issues about whether or not they are really trying to change something or they’re just looking for an ego boost or a way to promote a product or increase their following on social media platforms “Others contend that slacktivism and clicktivism are nothing more than a new breed of marketeering where organizers are more interested in boosting their numbers and their brand than they are in cultivating real social change.” Another article written by Knowledge at Wharton Staff called The Impact of Social Media; Is it Irreplaceable?, states that Social Media has gone from being an extra in our daily lives to becoming a fully integrated part of our society dictating politics, leading to crackdowns on government agencies due to racially motivated behavior and scandals. It is also becoming more apparent that soon the world of technology could become a physical attribute due to tycoons such as Elong Musk for developing implants. Social Media platforms were thought out to die within 15 years of their upbringing, but instead they boomed and such platforms like Facebook have become one of the most valuable companies to exist “Today, Facebook is one of the most valuable companies on earth and front and center in a whole range of public policy debates, so the scope of issues we’re thinking about with social media are broader," With social media being so integrated within our society it is becoming easier for people such as hackers to misuse these platforms for their own benefit whilst harming others, and is evolving to effect the geopolitical world, which in turn is leading to new policies and crackdowns on certain user agreements and the selling of information “Some proposals relate to stricter regulation on collection and use of consumer data.”
