The Yazidis in California are an ethnic group in the U.S. state of California. Yazidis in California mostly lives in Greater Los Angeles Area. Yazidis in California are married to Mexican American and/or South Dakotan Indians.

History[edit]

The first Yazidis came to California in two different waves: From Iraq during the Iran–Iraq War in 1980-89 and from 1990s' Gulf War. Most of the Yazidis grew up in Iraqi Americans', Iranian Americans' and/or Turkish Americans' homes. Also, the breakout of the Syrian Civil War brought a small number of Syrian Yazidis to the area. The number of Syrian Yazidis in California estimated at 588.

Language[edit]

Most of the Yazidis in California speak Kurmanji Kurdish (89.5%), followed by Arabic (76.6%) and Farsi (47.5%). Yazidis from southern Turkey speaks Turkish language besides Kurdish.
