Felix Walcher (born 14 April 1967 in Berlin) is a german orthopaedist and surgeon with special emphasis on trauma surgery. He is director of the Clinic for Trauma Surgery at the University of Magdeburg. His particular scientific interest lies in the emergency medicine including polytrauma management and the pathophysiology of the major trauma. Currently he is leading a project to establish a register for the nationwide standardized documentation of all emergencies.

Biography[edit]

From 1986 to 1992 Walcher studied medicine at the Saarland University. After he had finished his first year resident in the section of anesthesiology in 1994, he worked as an assistant at the Clinic for Accident, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery in Homburg until 2001. During this time he finished his residency in surgery and obtained the qualification in emergency medicine and senior emergency physician. In 2001 he went to the Clinic for Accident, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery of the University of Frankfurt, where he was appointed senior physician in 2002. At the University of Frankfurt he completed his education to become a medical specialist for orthopedics and trauma surgery with emphasis on special trauma surgery. in 2006 he was qualified as a professor in surgery and started his master of Medical Education which he completed in 2008. From 2009 until 2011 Walcher was Managing Senior Physician. In 2011 he became adjunct professor and worked as senior consultant until 2014 when he got appointed at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg. Currently, Walcher is director of the clinic for trauma surgery at the University of Magdeburg.[1]

in 2006 Walcher was honored with the innovation award of the German Society for Trauma Surgery. Furthermore, in 2006 and in 2011 the department of medicine at Frankfurt awarded him for his outstanding education.

Memberships in scientific organizations[edit]

Walcher is speak person of the section 'Accident Protocol' of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine[2] and of the 'Action Group for Information and Communication Technologies in Intensive and Emergency Medicine (AKTIN)',[3] which is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. He is vice chairman of the 'Surgery Working Group Education' of the German Society for Surgery as well as vice man of the committee 'Emergency Medicine and Simulation'[4] of the Society for Medical Education. He is also a member of the section 'Emergency-, Intensive Medicine and Provision of Severely Injured' which belongs to the Germany Society for Trauma Surgery. Furthermore he is expert in the following journals: European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery,[5] Der Unfallchirurg (The Trauma Surgeon), Injury, Journal for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery, and Zentralblatt Chirurgie.
