- Below are excerpts from The Kansas City Star stylebook that Ernest Hemingway once credited with containing "the best rules I ever learned for the business of writing."
1. Use short sentences. Use short first paragraphs. Use vigorous English. Be positive, not negative.
2. Never use old slang.
3. Eliminate every superfluous word.
4. Be careful of the word also. It usually modifies the word it follows closest. "He, also, went" means "He, too, went." "He went also" means he went in addition to taking some other action.
5. Be careful of the word "only." "He only had $10" means he alone was the possessor of such wealth; "He had only $10," means the ten was all the cash he possessed.
6. In writing of animals, use the neuter gender except when you are writing of a pet that has a name.
7. Try to preserve the atmosphere of the speech in your quotation. For instance, in quoting a child, do not let him say "Inadvertently, I picked up the stone and threw it."
Dritte Wahl (German pronunciation: [ˈdʁɪtə ˈvaːl]) is a Punk rock band from Rostock, Germany. The band, who's lyrics are mostly political, is active since their first perfomance in 1988. The band's name means "Third Choice" or "Third grade " ). The band was founded by Holm, Bisch´n, Gunnar and Krel. However, bass player Holm left Dritte Wahl in 1991 and the remaining line-up consisted of Busch´n (vocals, bass, † 2005), Gunnar (guitar, vocals) and Krel (drums) back then. Their lyrics often contain personal or sociocritical lyrics with left-wing impact.
In 1998 the band founded their own record label under the name Rausch Records, that was later renamed as Dritte Wahl Records.
On 17 January 2005, Busch´n died of stomach cancer aged 35. The remaining members didn't want to disband, but to continue their career (as it was also Busch´n's explicite wish).
Since 19 April 2005, Stefan - formerly guitarist for the Crushing Caspars - has been playing the bass.
Dritte Wahl are known for their energetic live concerts. Extended tours headed them through the whole of Germany and most European countries (including Holland, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Rep., Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia and Hungary). In 2010 Dritte Wahl played some concerts in Cuba.
