Rationale Support Oppose
Corruption
  • "The source didn't have a link; the source should be tampered with as little as possible." Bunchofgrapes
  • "The hyperlink within a text however does not make any change to the text" Wetman
  • "In the case of a wikilink, though, the reader will know that we added it. Therefore, it's not a misrepresentation of the original quotation. In a few exceptional circumstances, it would be relevant to note whether a hyperlink was or was not in the original" JamesMLane
  • "This is contary to the very nature of Wikipedia. The MoS states 'The purpose of internal links is to allow readers to easily and conveniently follow their curiosity or research to other articles.' (...) I do not agree that a link is an alteration of content or format. It is simply a tool to lead readers from article to article. To remove them for fear of 'altering' the content or meaning of a quote (...) is to go way overboard and would make articles less useful and WP harder to navigate. What serves the reader better? A quote that remains in plain text because of unfounded fears or links which provide useful information and context?" Gamaliel
Emphasis
  • "Links introduce visual emphasis to the linked terms" Bunchofgrapes
  • "Adding Wikilinks is editorializing, just as much as italicizing things to call the reader's attention to them. (In the latter case, you can put "[emphasis supplied]" but I don't think "[wikilinks supplied]" would be a good idea...)" Dpbsmith
  • "Putting a link in a quote also serves to emphasize certain words or phrases, and sometimes that emphasis distracts from the focus of the quote." Rob Kennedy
  • "Because wikilinking and external hyperlinking are so common, I don't think they convey a false emphasis. We can trust our readers to understand that, when a term is linked, it looks different than it did in the original, and that it's not a matter of emphasis." JamesMLane
  • "People using Wikipedia are not stupid. They know that 'hyperlink' is not 'emphasis'. jnestorius
Ambiguous target
  • "Links (...) have the potential to point to ambiguous destinations" Bunchofgrapes
Links may be placed around the quotation
  • "If a quote is worth including in an article, then the things the quote talks about are probably also mentioned elsewhere in the article, so link the article’s own text, not the quote’s." Rob Kennedy
Clarification
  • "Sometimes— keeping the reader always in mind— links within quotes discreetly identify and clarify an obscure reference, without resorting to clumsy footnotes." Wetman
Not followed in practice anyway
  • "Examples in the poem "To Anacreon in Heaven" demonstrate the kind of linking within quoted text that aids the reader without intruding the presence of the Wikipedian." Wetman

Polish cuisine

[edit]

The Polish word pączek [ˈpɔnt͡ʂɛk] (plural: pączki [ˈpɔnt͡ʂkʲi]) is the plural form of, which is a diminutive of the Polish word pąk [ˈpɔŋk] "bud".[1] The latter derives from Proto-Slavic *pǫkъ, which may have referred to anything that is round, swollen and about to burst (compare Proto-Slavic *pǫkti "to swell, burst"), possibly of ultimately onomatopoeic origin.[2][3]
